What is Saving Lives?

The beginning of this project was in the year 1993 when there was a major disaster and earthquake at Khillari district, Latur. Lots of humanitarian aid came through Rotary club of Birmingham and Pune to establish a trauma center at Latur. But everything went into vein due to lack of Infrastructure & skilled personnel at Latur. A survey was conducted by Maharashtra state and Ruby Hall Clinc, Pune was selected as a suitable site for a Pilot Project for Nation for Tertiary Trauma Centre as it was decided. A team of expert from City Hospital, Birmingham, West Midlands Ambulance Services, Birmingham and Royal Life Saving Society visited Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune in 2001 and recommended Ruby Hall Clinic as a suitable site for developing Trauma unit and pre hospital care, as a pilot scheme for Pune and Nation.

The SAVING LIVES project has started with the following aims and objectives:

• To provide pre-Hospital care or Emergency Medical Services
• Trauma Management
• Community Education
• Disaster Management

In August 2002 a Tertiary Trauma Care Centre has started with 28-bed capacity. Emergency Medical Services Department and pre hospital care were commenced from February 2002. A specialized team of Emergency Medical Services was appointed in January 2003 with Senior Consultant managing Accident and Emergency.

The course of Emergency medical Services was started in July 2004 with various batches and till now it has trained more than Three thousand students. We have also started Diploma in Industrial Health Management in 2006 and Disaster Management course in 2010. We have also commenced Community education through college student paramedics, police officials, Volunteers, NGO's, school children, and industrial workers. We are providing certified 'Basic Life Support' Course for the Community.
